L'arcipelago si trova a circa 300Km da Capo Sao Roque nel NE del Brasile. E' formato da 21 isole di origine vulcanica. L'isola principale copre oltre il 90% della superficie totale. | The archipelago is situated about 215 Miles from Cape Sao Roque in the NE of Brazil. It is formed by 21 volcanic islands. The main island makes up more than 90% of total area. |

Ci sono voli giornalieri da Natal e Recife. Nel Dicembre '93 erano consentiti solo 10Kg di bagaglio, troppo pochi per un sub. Conviene informarsi. All'arrivo si paga una tassa di soggiorno che aumenta progressivamente con la durata della permanenza. | There are daily flights from Natal and Recife. In December '93 only 10 Kg of luggage were allowed, which is not enough for a diver. It's better to inquire. At the arrival you must pay the Environmental Preservation Tax, which progressively increases with the length of the visit. |
| L'isola The island |
E' un parco nazionale. Vi nidificano varie specie di uccelli oltre alla tartaruga verde, che si incontra facilmente in molte spiagge. In una baia si possono osservare gruppi di delfini stanziali. C'è un hotel molto semplice e vari 'bed and breakfast' (meglio conoscere un po' di portoghese). Si possono affittare piccole macchine e biciclette (se siete in forma perfetta!) | It's a national park. One of the most important place for nesting of several kinds of birds, and green turtle which is very easy to meet on the beach. In a bay, you can observe groups of dolphins. There is a basic hotel and many bed and breakfast (better to learn some Portuguese). You can rent small cars and bicycles (you must be in a very good shape!) |
Diving |
La maggior parte delle immersioni vengono fatte tra l'isola principale e l'isola Rata, sia sul lato Est (più profonde) che sul lato Ovest (soprattutto drift dive e grotte). Il lato Est è sicuramente il più bello, ma non sempre le condizioni del mare ne consentono l'accesso. Tutta l'attrezzatura può essere affittata sul posto. La temperatura dell'acqua è di 28° / 29°C. | Dives are normally made between main island and Ilha Rata, both on East side (deeper dives) end West side (drift and caves). East side is better, but not always is accessible due to the sea condition. All the diving gear can be rent at the local diving center. The average water temperature is 83°F. |
