Dove?
Where?

Cayman Brac is one of the three islands of the Cayman group. It's about 80mi from Grand Cayman, the main island, and 20mi from Little Cayman. It's more developed than Little Cayman, but still maintains the charme of the small island. Its shape is long and narrow, with a rocky formation called 'Bluff' running along its center. It's flat on the top, with almost vertical walls full of caves, which, in the past, had been a safe shelter against hurricanes for the inhabitants. That's why Cayman Brac developed more than Little Cayman, which offers no shelters. Now caves are home for bats and a tourist attraction. A road runs along the flat top of the Bluff, between farms and forests, to the lighthouse on the easternmost tip.

Cayman Brac has a modern airport with daily flights from Grand Cayman and Little Cayman. Built on the island's south west side, it's close to the most known diving resorts. At the airport you can find all major rent-a-car companies.
Il relitto
The Wreck
Scuba diving magazines have been talking about for years: it's Capt. Keith Tibbetts, a Russian warship, formerly known as #356, bought from Cubans and then voluntarily sunk in September 1996, mainly to create a new tourist attraction. Now she lays upright on a white sandy bottom, with her propellers at about -55 ft. while her bow is at about -80 ft., protruding from the bottom which, in that point, starts dropping towards the reef wall, only 120 ft away. The delicate sinking operation was attended by Jean-Michel Cousteau, who saw in this wreck a symbol of a new era: a war machine transformed in a base for new life. And new life is already encrusting the ship structures, while many fishes chose the wreck as their new home. When you dive on the wreck, at first you are impressed, mostly because the clear water offers an astonishing view of all the massive wreck. I must say that, personally, i didn't find this dive particularly exciting. The wreck was relatively recent and everything was too much in 'Disneyland' style...
Diving

Cayman Brac mainly offers dives along wonderful walls, with beautiful corals and colours. Current is not frequent; occasionally you can make nice drift dives. Night diving is also outstanding, with a lot of unusual encounters. As in Little Cayman, the drop off is very close to the shore, and all dive sites are within few minutes of boat ride. Visibility is very good and water temperature, in August 1997, was 86°F. In the following table you'll find details of every dive with a rating from 1 (Min.) to 5 (Max.)
