Little Cayman è una delle tre isole che compongono il gruppo delle Cayman. Dista circa 60 miglia da Grand Cayman, l'isola principale, e 20 miglia da Cayman Brac. E' la più piccola e la meno abitata. E' un'isola piatta, con alcune lagune interne ove nidificano le sule ed altri uccelli. Lungo le sue strade è facile incontrare grosse iguane. | Little Cayman is one of the three islands of the Cayman group. It's about 60 miles from Grand Cayman, the main island, and 20 from Cayman Brac. It's the smallest and less inhabited. It's a flat island, with some inside lagoons where boobies and other birds are nesting. Little Cayman ha un suo piccolo aeroporto con voli quotidiani da Grand Cayman e Cayman Brac. Alla fine della corta pista d'atterraggio, l'aereo attraversa la strada principale per fermarsi al 'terminal' ove stazionano i pulmini dei vari resorts. L'aeroporto internazionale è, ovviamente, a Grand Cayman. | Little Cayman has its own small airport, with daily flights to Grand Cayman and Cayman brac. At the end of the short landing strip, the aircraft will cross the main road to get to the 'terminal', where buses from many resorts are waiting. | Cosa fare? What to do? |
Diving, diving e ancora diving. L'isola offre pochi svaghi. Se amate fare 2 o 3 immersioni al giorno e la sera andare a letto presto, questo posto fa per voi. Come alternativa al diving pomeridiano potete trovare una bicicletta ed esplorare l'isola, con le sue belle (ma poche) case che si affacciano sul mare, le lagune ed il lago dei tarponi. Se non siete subacquei (o in compagnia di non subacquei), meglio cambiare destinazione. Un'altra particolarità: l'acqua lungo la spiaggia è bassissima e non si può nuotare e neanche rinfrescarsi, se non con acrobazie. Se invece siete subacquei quest'isola vi incanterà con la sua placida atmosfera e vi entrerà nel cuore. | Diving, diving and more diving. There are not many recreations on the island. If you like to make 2 or 3 dives per day and go to bed early, this is the right place for you. As an alternative to the afternoon dive, you can take a bicycle and explore the island, with its beautiful houses (very few...), the lagoons and Tarpon's Lake. If you are not a diver (or in a party with non divers), better to change destination. Another detail: water along the beaches is very shallow and you can't swim and not even cool down, unless you are an acrobat. Se amate le immersioni in parete, Little Cayman fa al caso vostro. Tutte le immersioni vengono fatte in pareti stupende, con bellissimi coralli e molta vita. Il muro comincia spesso a pochi metri dalla riva e tutte i luoghi di immersione sono raggiungibili in pochi minuti. La visibilità è normalmente buona e la temperatura dell'acqua nell' Agosto 1997 era di 30°C. Ho raccolto nella tabella che segue il dettaglio delle immersioni, con un punteggio da 1 (Min.) a 5 (Max.) | If you like wall diving, Little Cayman is the place. All dives are made along wonderful wall, with beautiful corals and a lot of life. The wall lays very close to the shore, and all dive sites are within few minutes of boat ride. Visibility is good and water temperature, in August 1997, was 86°F.
